Trivers Publishes “A Legacy of Positive Consequence”

To commemorate its 50th anniversary, Trivers published a book titled “A Legacy of Positive Consequence.” As Trivers’ first publication, it chronicles the stories, ideas, projects and collaborations that define the firm’s past and inspire its future.

“This book captures the evolution of a firm built on solving complex challenges, advancing sustainability and strengthening communities,” said Principal Joe Brinkmann. “From the beginning, Trivers has been guided by bold ideas, collaborative leadership and a belief that architecture can catalyze significant change.”

John Berglund, co-founder and managing partner at the StarWood Group, penned the book’s foreword. Berglund worked as an architect at Trivers before becoming a developer. In 2018, he partnered with Trivers on the renovation and repositioning of the Post-Dispatch Building in downtown St. Louis, now known as the Post Building.

“I believe downtown St. Louis’ path forward is a collaborative one where architects, developers and the public collectively create safe environments where people want to spend their time and invest their resources,” Berglund said. “Trivers’ projects embody the creativity and foresight essential in creating momentum toward meaningful and positive growth.”

The book proceeds to celebrate the legacy of Trivers’ founder Andy Trivers, FAIA and the firm’s long-lasting relationships with McCormack Baron Salazar, Washington University, American Cancer Society, the United States General Services Administration, and Grice Group Architects.

Twelve transformative Trivers projects are highlighted throughout the book, including Gateway Arch National Park, the Old Post Office, and Tower Grove Park pavilions in St. Louis.

“Spanning adaptive reuse, historic preservation and innovative new design, these projects honor their context, elevate human experiences, and respond to the needs of the present while looking toward the future,” said Principal Joel Fuoss.

With a timeline of milestones from project awards to team member accomplishments, the book honors the firm’s history while looking ahead to a future shaped by the transformative power of design.

“As we celebrate 50 years of creativity, dedication and design excellence, we reflect on the legacy we’ve built while embracing the new challenges and opportunities to come,” Principal Amy Gilbertson said. “The shared passion that drives us to create architecture that inspires, connects and empowers communities will shape the next chapter of our journey.”
