Sustainability

Sustainability has always been the ultimate architectural value. It extends beyond environmental performance to include sustaining the environment through efficient design, sustaining buildings through quality materials, sustaining operations, and sustaining the communities and people they serve.

Because it’s not enough to address only one aspect of sustainable architecture, we work to bring all relevant considerations together from the day work begins. This not only helps us to design better, it enables us to help our clients understand the overall benefits of sustainability to the project and to them over the long term.

 

Because renovation respects the embodied energy in existing buildings, it has been an inherently sustainable part of our practice over the 50-year career of the firm. As we’ve expanded our expertise, we’ve incorporated sustainable thinking into all our designs.

 

 

Today, the profession is at a critical juncture. With a growing understanding of our collective impact, we recognize a responsibility, both as individuals and as a firm, to deepen our commitment to sustainability across all aspects of our work.

In alignment with this commitment, we are signatories to the AIA 2030 Commitment, and have reported to the Design Data Exchange for the last nine years, tracking and advancing progress toward carbon-neutral buildings. We also participate in the AIA Materials Pledge, with firm and project/product level reporting over the past three years to support more informed, responsible material selection.
