Sustainability has always been the ultimate architectural value. Sustaining the environment because maximum efficiency is designed into a project, sustaining a building because it’s built of quality materials, sustaining operations, sustaining community and, ultimately, sustaining people.
Because it’s not enough to address only one aspect of sustainability, we work to bring all relevant considerations together from the day work begins. This not only helps us to design better, it enables us to help our clients understand the overall benefits of sustainability to the project and to them over the long term.
Because renovation respects the embodied energy in existing buildings, it has been an inherently sustainable part of our practice over the 40-year career of the firm. As we’ve expanded our expertise, we’ve incorporated sustainable thinking into all our designs.
Now, all of architecture is at a critical juncture. We realize we have a responsibility as individuals and as a profession to deepen our commitment to sustainability as a major part of all of our work. For that reason, we are proud signatories to the AIA 2030 Commitment, an initiative to track and accelerate progress toward the goal of carbon-neutral building.
