The two-story, 9,000 SF addition expands Kemper Hall, home to programs in Physics, Astronomy, Materials Science, and Technology and Construction Management. Designed as a transparent, light-filled addition to the existing Brutalist building, the project includes a double-height training lab, student collaboration spaces, a relocated computer lab and outdoor student balconies.

The design also turns the building itself into a learning opportunity. Exposed structural systems and a range of building materials give construction management students a firsthand look at the systems and methods they study in the classroom.

The AIA Springfield Design Awards are held every two years and recognize excellence in architecture throughout the region.
