Revitalizing an underutilized large commercial property of the Historic Soulard Neighborhood, the Russell Apartments will become a modern anchor while respecting the historic context of the 1850’s neighborhood in St. Louis. Materials, scale, and massing are informed by and work with the historic context of the commercial and single-family structures throughout. The four-story west facade responds to the scale and speed of the adjacent cut-through interstate, and as the building turns the corner into the neighborhood, the fourth story steps back, creating unit patios with downtown views. When the building meets the adjacent single family homes, the fourth level gives way to rooftop amenity spaces, becoming a three-story structure. Brick masonry, tall and narrow single hung windows, and slate siding are a result of the historic context.
130 one and two-bedroom apartment units sit above an underground parking garage while fourth level amenity spaces and a 1,000 square foot pool offer views of the downtown skyline and the Gateway Arch.
The project is scheduled to be completed in early summer 2018.
