Developer Jeff Tegethoff has seen firsthand how college campuses spur investment in neighborhoods around them. But the market seems to have neglected the area around the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
“Why not UMSL? Why not Normandy?” he asks. “People are going to look back in five years and say, ‘How did we miss that?’”
Indianapolis-based Pearl Companies, where Tegethoff is a principal, plans to be one of the first major developers to make a bet on the area with a $60 million, mixed-use development along Natural Bridge Road adjacent to the UMSL South MetroLink station.
