AIA St. Louis recognized Washington University Bryan Hall with a 2020 Merit Award in Architecture at the virtual award ceremony on October 28th.
The 49,000 GSF renovation was completed in partnership with Baltimore-based Ayers Saint Gross and was the university’s first step in the Integrated Science Initiative Precinct Program. Now home to the Chemistry Department and a new pedestrian entrance to campus, Bryan Hall’s renovation presented the opportunity to boldly transform the building and adjacent bridge from the “back door” to a new gateway to the heart of campus. Due to the neighboring buildings’ non-descript facades, it was also a chance to insert a modern intervention into the campus Collegiate Gothic vernacular. Bryan Hall received LEED Gold certification earlier this year.
