Located in Granite City, Illinois, Community Health System's Gateway Regional Medical Center selected Trivers Associates to help plan the renovations of their existing Endoscopy and Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU). This area of the hospital was the former Intensive Care Unit.
The project's goal was to modernize the current department with the latest technology, improve staff efficiency and design shared recovery areas in the PACU. The plan featured four prep rooms and three GI procedure rooms. One of the procedure rooms was designed for bronchoscopy procedures. The PACU was reconfigured to allow for four dedicated GI recovery bays and eight PACU recovery bays.
The design also focused on the patient experience before, during and after procedures. The Trivers design team provided GRMC with facility and equipment planning services along with full architectural and interior services. Along with design services, the Trivers team investigated options and developed staging plans to ensure that interruption to the Radiology Department below, or the Women and Newborn Department above were minimized. KJWW's Engineers worked closely with Trivers to identify issues with existing mechanical systems and seamlessly integrate a new design.
