Washington University School of Medicine Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics Laboratory Suite Renovation
St. Louis, Missouri
The renovation for the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics completely removed the existing dated laboratories accessed by a central corridor on the entire 2nd floor of the 70-year old Cancer Research Building on the medical campus and created an open laboratory suite for multiple principal investigators. The laboratory suite has nine chemical fume hoods, grouped in a central location with adjacent access to bench workspace and adjustable point exhaust snorkels. Specialty labs, shared tech stations, equipment rooms, chemical storage and cold room flank the central laboratory area. Due to the shallow floor-to-floor height of 10' 6", no ceiling was installed in the central laboratory space, providing greater spatial sense for the investigators. Research offices and a conference area with a kitchenette are separate from the laboratory area, providing a collegial setting for staff interaction.
