Designed to be a catalyst for an area of St. Louis targeted for change, two 19th century historic school structures were joined for use as an elementary school and community center with the insertion of a modern building that served as the link. The addition bridges the existing structures to form a unified neighborhood complex. Programmed spaces for shared use include a cafeteria, library, weight rooms, a cardio-machine, an aerobic/dance room, locker rooms, gymnasium, ball fields and a community fountain that was added in 2003. The result has led to further development in the area and a renewed sense of community pride.
