The Hipolito F. Garcia Federal Building and United States Courthouse has been honored alone as the only LEED Platinum certified building among the 22,000+ Federal buildings in GSA's inventory.  As our country begins to focus on retaining our historic past as part of a sustainable future, the Garcia building is one of the first Federal project to reconcile the competing demands of the preservation and sustainable communities.  The $50,000,000 renovation of this 308,270 square foot building stands in the shadow of the legendary Alamo, and is a model of historic preservation and environmental design for the 21st century and beyond.  It is also a model of cooperation between the government and private sector experts in architecture, design and construction.  The sustainable model will pay for itself in savings of energy in a remarkably reasonable time.
